Our Assessment
At Little Lights Language and Literacy, we believe in providing personalised speech therapy services for children of all ages. Our experienced therapists offer a welcoming and supportive environment and tailor the therapy program to meet individual needs. We understand the challenges that families can face when addressing communication needs and we are here to help your child reach their full potential. Contact us today to start your child's therapy journey with our Initial Assessment and Report service.

We offer a Comprehensive Assessment and Report service that is recommended for NDIS Funding. This includes a 30-minute parent interview and a 90-minute assessment with a complete report. Our well-trained professionals will evaluate your child's communication skills in a supportive and caring way. To meet the needs of busy families, we also offer a Literacy Screener and Report service to determine your child's language and literacy levels. We also provide an Initial Assessment service without a report, which is recommended for those who want to start therapy without a formal evaluation.
Little Lights uses a range of standardised and criterion reference assessments to:
-
Identify and diagnose developmental language disorder.
-
Identify students who are at risk of a specific language disorder and work with educational psychologists towards a formal diagnosis.
-
Provide benchmarks for your child’s reading, spelling and written expression skills. This allows us to determine their strength and weakness and plan for effective individualised intervention (i.e., select the appropriate programs, and track progress and improvement).
-
Provide a list of recommendations for resources including workbooks, apps, and online programs.
-
Provide a report with detailed information and recommendation for parents and schools, especially for exam provisions and support.
Standardised Assessment tools:
-
TILLS: Test of Integrated Language and Literacy Skills
-
CELF 5 - Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals | Fifth Edition CELF-5
-
CTOPP2 – Comprehensive Test of Phonological Processing - Second Edition
-
YARC – York Assessment of Reading Comprehension – Australian Edition
Assessments generally take 90 minutes to complete. Detailed reports are available within 2 weeks of the assessment taking place. Following the assessment, parents are invited to a 30-minute meeting to discuss the assessment finding and recommendations in detail.

Sounds Write
Sounds-Write is an expertly structured synthetic phonics programme based on the science of reading. This multisensory, code-oriented, comprehensive approach to literacy has been designed for students with mild to moderate difficulty acquiring the foundational literacy skills.

Read 3
Read3 is a parent-friendly, evidence-informed literacy program for children who struggle to remember letters and sounds, or read simple words. The Read3 program was designed for children with literacy challenges including weak working memory, processing difficulties and dyslexia. It builds foundational skills in three core areas essential for early reading development.

Talk for writing
Talk for Writing is an engaging teaching framework developed by Pie Corbett, supported by Julia Strong. It is powerful because it is based on the principles of how children learn. It enables children to imitate the language they need for a particular topic orally, before reading and analysing it, and then writing their own version.

Spelling For Life
For students who have developed foundational literacy skills (From the third year of school and up).
Spelling for Life enables teachers and students to:
-
Gain insight into the English Orthography and spelling rules.
-
Study the morphology and etymology of words to develop a deeper understanding of the English writing system.
